At last! Solange Knowles has finally addressed the infamous Met Gala elevator scuffle, that occurred two months ago between her and famous brother-in-law, Jay Z.
The Lucky Magazine August cover girl might not have exactly spilled all the beans on everything that went down that night, but she did at least address the elephant in the room…and that’s a start.
According to Us Weekly, the 28-year-old younger sister of superstar Beyonce, is far beyond the night of May 5. In fact the singer doesn’t even consider the “scuffle” to be one at all. Instead, she refers to it only as “that thing”.
Interesting. Either Solange is taking the higher road and not giving in to the media’s perception of her as a “violent” person, or she’s subconsciously choosing not to own her actions of that infamous night.
Which do you think it could be?
Leaked video footage by TMZ shows the trio (Solange, Jay Z, and Beyonce) enter into an elevator on the night of the Met Gala at New York City’s Standard Hotel, in which an altercation occurs between Knowles and Jay Z- resulting in Solange becoming violent toward her brother-in-law. Beyonce can be seen stepping in between her husband and her enraged sister, but not doing much else to diffuse the situation. (A move I’m sure a lot of people criticized her for.)
Following the release of the video, the family put on a united front and issued a joint statement regarding the incident. It read:
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it. Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
Solange’s own statement, albeit brief, mirrors that statement. She tells the magazine:
“What’s important is that my family and I are all good. What we had to say collectively was in the statement that we put out, and we all feel at peace with that.”
The family members have chosen not to discuss what ignited “that thing”, but a source close to the trio has said that Solange took something Jay Z said in the wrong context, and made it into something bigger.
What do you think of Solange’s take on things- are you satisfied with what she had to say?
